Instead of the wood
Focus on the space between
That is where hope lives
This haiku was written for Patrick’s Pic and a Word Challenge #173 – Fences. There has been lots of talk about fences and other barriers being built to keep “other people” out. But, as Patrick’s poem alluded to, it also keeps us in. Unless we go through (or over or under or around) the fence, we would never know who or what is on the other side and whether we like them or not.But no matter which side of the fence you might be on, I bet you always look through the spaces between.

well said and we always think the other side gets it better ….

sounds so much like an Emily D verse, like a chant – fences, borders and walls all have a function, so often misused and misunderstood.

It’s like we build walls up around our hearts to “protect” them, it tends to be a barrier that also keeps out the good that could come if we open our hearts and welcome love and opportunities in.

Ageeed – it’s a difficult balance and always the risk of getting hurt if we open our hearts. But what would life be like if we didn’t take the chance?

All fences, no matter how tightly made, have cracks. I love how you have said so much in so few words!

They do that, sometimes. Flashes of inspiration which need to find pen or keyboard pronto. Glad you could get it down!
