You reach out to me
Beckoning across water
Pleading with your eyes
To bridge the gap of anger
But fog hides the other side
This prompt was written for Patrick’s Pic and a Word Challenge #167 – Bridges.
This picture is from a trail I ran about two years ago with one of my good running friends, Nada. It was a new trail that she wanted to check out so we decided to be adventurous on one of our long runs.
The trail was somewhat remote and followed the Susquehanna River. It meandered through corn fields then lush trees. At one point, train tracks followed parallel to the path. The trail abruptly ended at a hunting camp in a small town (that explained the gun fire we also heard along the path). We ran a few miles in the quiet town then headed back.
The bridge was a surprise when we came out of the corn fields and rounded a corner. The path was right against the river and went under the bridge. It was a beautiful sight, emerging from the mist!
I love runs like this! Good company makes the miles fly by! Connecting with people – bridging gaps – is one of the wonderful things about running. You really get to know someone after 15+ miles running along side them.
Maybe next time I’m having an argument with someone, I’ll invite them for a run….

Great tale, I’m pretty sure I might be able to walk 15 km but run it… no way joseh!
would be a great way to dissolve an argument, they’d be so out of breath 🙂

Mystical and beautiful Irma! I used to do a lot of running, but have switched gears now in my workouts. The rush and freedom I felt when I ran and the peace that it brought me I now get in my yoga practice. Every once in a while I still crave a good run, but after having problems with shin splints I had to cut back and refell in love with yoga all over again (and taking my daily walks at sunrise or sunset). 💖 🙂

I love yoga too although I don’t get to do too much of it. I haven’t found a good practice here since most of them places here see it as exercise and forgo the spiritual and mental aspect. Shin splints are the worst! Glad you found the physical outlet that worked for you. ❤️

Awww the spiritual element is part of what makes it such a beautiful and total package for the mind, body, and spirit. Thank you, I’m glad I did as well.😊 ❤️

That looks like the rockvale bridge not too far from me. Trying to figure out what running route you took.

It was down near Columbia – I’m forgetting the trail name now. I’ll ask Nada. It was pretty but isolated – or maybe it was just empty since we were running early and in winter! 😁

Lovely poem and memory. I see that you’ve seen my bridge that was the view from my grandmother’s place. By coincidence my other grandmother’s name was Nada. 🙂 Greetings to you and your friend, and I was you a happy year, more running or more blogging – as long as it makes you happy.

I will have to let my friend know there is another Nada! She and I bond over our unusual names – which, depending where we are in the world – becomes more or less unusual. Your post was very touching. And yes, the goal of every year is to achieve happiness, is it not? 😁

Yes, it is. And I believe we build it ourselves. 🙂 I’m sure she knows what her name means, at least around here? It’s “hope”. Do you prefer to keep your name a secret or do you tell it somewhere? 😉

She is Palestinian so I think in Arabic her name means generous or dew. I actually wrote a poem about my name! It is a good Spanish name but also used in Eastern Europe so you might have heard of it as well! (It’s Irma!)

Hello, Irma, nice to meet you and good to know your name. 🙂 Yes, it’s a name of quite some Slovenian women too.

Nice to meet you as well. I’ve gotten many a double take when I introduce myself – either they expect a spicy Spanish speaking woman or a blond bombshell Eastern European woman – they are always disappointed! 😂

pure thoughts come out of good runs like these, glad you could really experience every small nuance of the area you ran in, and your poem says so much more about your life principles than just a descriptive narrative.

I knew you would pick up on that! Life is about connecting with people, isn’t it? Especially when they are wonderful like you! ❤️

So do I, dear friend! ❤️ FYI – my WordPress app has been acting strangely and wasn’t letting me post comments anywhere. ☹️ hence the delay in responding. I finally had to uninstall and reinstall it. Oh technology!

it does these silly things from time to time. there was a period where i wasn’t seeing some posts from blogs i followed, WP helped me unfollow them…LOL! is it on your mobile or ipad?

Mobile – I wasn’t sure if it was the app or my ancient phone. Plus WP wouldn’t let me into the help section of the app either. (Sigh) hopefully it was just some weird random quirk!
